A book that questions the thin line between reason and superstition through the eyes of a young woman who finds her strenght in her rational point of view.
Alina has been seeing shadows and faces in the dark since she was a kid.
Now, while studying for her doctorate in History of Religions, specialized in occultism and aithful to the power of the ever enlightening rationality, she got used to considering her visions as simple traces of broken dreams.
One day, a phone call from the police changes the order of the routine of her daily programmed boredom. The police suspects an underground cult to be causing a wave of psychotic breakdowns throughout the city of São Paulo. The only available clue is a geometric figure, a symbol drawn by one of the victims. Intrigued by the case and anxious to escape her routine, Alina decides to look into what’s going on by herself, and she will find herself questioning the thin limit between reason and religion, culture and superstition.
Antônio Xerxenesky sews together daily life’s boredom with the disturbing effects of fear and horror, in a novel filled with references to movies, music and to the universe of the occult.
